WASTEWATER COLLECTION & TREATMENT

WASTEWATER COLLECTION & TREATMENT

Black & Veatch can solve all forms of wastewater treatment problems. We have designed and built some of the largest and complex wastewater treatment plants in the world, for both municipal and industrial clients. We work with clients from initial concept to final commissioning, and long-term operation if required, to ensure the best solution for each site. Many of the processes available, including conventional sewage treatment processes and biological nutrient removal, can be combined to provide the most effective, specific solution to ensure that required standards are met.

A Group global technology support facility ensures that Black & Veatch continues to develop innovative solutions to solve disposal and odour problems and minimise the environmental impact of treatment and disposal processes. Black & Veatch's experience in sewage treatment and sludge digestion gives the company an unrivalled depth of knowledge, both in the design and construction of new plants and the refurbishment and upgrading of existing plant. This expertise has been acquired through successfully handling major wastewater projects throughout the world in a variety of conditions and climates.

We have specialist expertise in the areas of:

  • Urban Pollution Management (UPM) techniques for providing solutions to Combined Sewer Overflows (CSO). Our teams of sewerage engineers and modellers have designed solutions to wastewater collection systems throughout the world and use sophisticated computer modelling systems to simulate the operation of sewerage and drainage systems in drainage area plans.
  • "No-Dig" solutions, involving state of the art microtunnelling and pipe-relining techniques for infrastructure renewal.
  • Sustainable Drainage is a fast developing field, which mimics nature instead of using traditional pipes and sewer to provide solutions to urban runoff. We are a leading exponent of this technique.
  • Biological Nutrient Removal is a developing field and we employ one of its pioneers (Dr James Barnard - Pioneer of the Bardenpho process).
  • Sludge treatment and the management of the disposal/reuse routes. In particular our process team is currently providing the solution for the UK's largest sewage sludge pasteurisation project.

Our specialist water/wastewater process team works on a worldwide basis under the name of Proteus (Process Team for Universal Solutions). This is a worldwide network of process experts co-ordinated by Frank Rogalla from our UK Offices.
